(HealthDay News) -- A toothache can make you miserable, but there are things you can do to ease the pain until you're able to see your dentist.

The American Dental Association advises:

  • Use warm water to gently rinse your mouth.
  • Floss gently to help remove food particles between teeth.
  • Never place aspirin on gums or teeth that hurt, as it could cause burns on gum tissue.
  • Make a dental appointment if the pain doesn't stop.
