Taking a Daily Multivitamin May Slow Brain Aging

A new study finds taking a daily multivitamin could help improve memory and slow cognitive decline in older adults.

Another major study finds taking a daily multivitamin could help improve memory and slow cognitive decline.

Researchers analyzed data from three clinical trials and found the supplements led to big benefits for older adults.

The lead researcher says, “The meta-analysis… provides strong and consistent evidence that taking a daily multivitamin, containing more than 20 essential micronutrients, helps prevent memory loss and slow down cognitive aging.”

In fact, the researchers estimate that taking multivitamins slowed brain aging by the equivalent of two years compared to placebo.

The team also took a closer look at more than 570 participants who underwent in-person assessments and found multivitamins helped significantly with memory but not executive function or attention.

One author says these findings further support “the promise of multivitamins as a safe, accessible and affordable approach to protecting cognitive health in older adults.”
